Partner Spotlight: Urban Corps of San Diego County
These days, earning a high school diploma and gaining valuable working experience can significantly open up more opportunities for one's future. Now, more than ever, establishing a solid career is an essential step for financial stability. Here at PSCDC, we place a high value on delivering quality educational resources and employment preparation services to our residents. To better equip our San Diego young adults for the future, we are proud to announce that we are planning to team up with the Urban Corps of San Diego County.
Established as far back as 1989, the Urban Corps of San Diego County is a certified local conservation corps and charter school. For over 32 years, their mission has been to serve as a bridge to a better life for young adults aged 18-26 by providing them with paid job training, support services, and a second chance to earn a high school diploma. Simultaneously, they offer a variety of professional services to the San Diego community. Corpsmembers (program participants) gain job skills through environmental, construction, recycling, and other community transforming projects. Corpsmembers get involved in rehabilitating low-income homes, improving parks and conserving San Diego's natural environment, removing graffiti, offering waste management during events, working in the San Diego River, and much more.
Urban Corps' WASC-accredited charter high school offers an accelerated, needs-based, technology-rich academic structure with a low teacher-to-student ratio. Additional services, including career and psychological counseling, life skills workshops, case management, and one-on-one assistance with resumes, job and college applications, and job placement, are accessible to each of their students. Over the last five years, over 320 Corpsmembers have graduated from Urban Corps with their high school diplomas and prepared with job skills!
Urban Corps helps guide young adults in navigating through adversity and allows them to dream again. By effectively serving their Corpsmembers, they directly impact and give back to communities. PSCDC is proud to be developing a partnership with such an impactful force in education and employment preparation that advocates civic engagement, responsibility, and self-sufficiency. They are currently accepting new applicants in both San Diego and North County!
