Holtville Gardens Apartments Introduces Residents to Local Health Agency with Community Health Fair

HOLTVILLE, CA - Holtville Gardens Apartments, a senior community within our Imperial Valley portfolio, started the new year with a re-introduction to resources and services available to them through local health agencies. At the start of the year, the PSCDC Imperial team invites local Imperial Valley health agencies to a health-centric fair for our senior residents. Health is a major focal point in services offered by our Resident Services Coordinators, and is a heavily requested category of services, especially in senior communities. Residents attend these seasonal health fairs to ask questions, find solutions, and learn with agencies and groups specialized in information and services across the various faucets of senior-focused health and wellbeing.

Eleven different agencies and groups attended the winter health fair last Wednesday to introduce, talk, and even offer health and promotional items with Holtville Gardens residents. Some attending health agencies also provided residents with free on-site services. An educational class covering the topic of diabetes prevention for seniors was held in the community room by the El Centro Regional Medical Center's Diabetes Prevention Program. Ventanilla de Salud, a program designed by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Foreign Relations of the Mexican Consulate, conducted blood pressure, glucose, and COVID tests for any resident interested. Residents looking for specific services or information were directed to the correct agency by Suzette Mardueno, Holtville Gardens Apartments' Residents Services Coordinator, or by another Imperial Resident Services Coordinator in attendance.

Attending local health partners include:

Catholic Charities, Diocese of San Diego - Imperial County branch

Medical Access

Clinicas del Valle

These local health agencies supplement many of the on-site health services already provided by the Imperial team. Resident Services Coordinators support senior communities by offering services that covers individualized and one-on-one resident assistance, grief support, fitness and exercise, skill-building classes, recreational and social gatherings, and health program referrals. We are extremely grateful for our community health partners who lend their expertise, knowledge, and service to our residents through on-site presentations, workshops, and events.

To end the event, residents participated in a huge raffle as a small token of appreciation from the attending agencies. Lucky residents brought home air friers, blankets, coffee mugs, a rice cooker, gift cards, and more. A total of 51 Holtville Gardens residents attended the winter health fair. The Imperial team will be holding another health fair, the last for the winter season, on January 31 at Imperial Gardens Apartments. The next series of health fairs for seniors will begin again in October.
