April Activities Breakdown at Our San Diego Senior Properties
As we continue preparations for relaunching more of our resident services in all our communities, we are also focus on providing one of the most pressing needs in our San Diego communities: food security. Food distributions are still heavily attended by residents, with no signs of slowing down. Throughout April, we have worked with many partners and organizations to address our residents' individual needs.
Commitment to our residents support in any form has always been an essential part of PSCDC's resident services, and PSCDC Case Manager Alexis Jaimes and Assistant Case Manager Paul Gonzales for Westminster Manor truly embody this ideal. Over the last month, Paul reached out to our support network to acquire essential donations for residents. After a senior resident approached Paul for help in getting compression socks in preparation for surgery, Paul contacted Nike, who then graciously donated a pair to the resident. Helping Hands Senior Foundations, an organization dedicated to accommodating disabled seniors to live an independent lifestyle, also delivered a specialized wheelchair to another Westminster resident. The process of receiving a wheelchair, usually taking weeks or months through traditional insurance, was reduced to only three days. Both residents are grateful to continue living their independent lifestyle thanks to the collaborative efforts of our partners.
A couple of Westminster Manor residents also donated their time to provide fellow neighbors with a delicious home-cooked Spring Meal distribution! Residents Jean Browne and Gwendolyn Joseph, with help from a San Diego PACE volunteer, Alexis, Paul, and funding from PSCDC, prepared 90 fresh meals for residents and staff. The meals consisted of rotisserie and fried chicken, potato salad, macaroni and cheese, vegetables, sweet potatoes, a cookie, and a soda.
At Versa at Civita, another very active Senior property, Resident Services Coordinator Jelena Predojevic receives fresh bread donations from a local Panera Bread every Sunday evening for weekly bread distributions every Monday. During April, she has been able to host four bread distributions and a farmer's market for Versa residents. Our health and wellness partners at Aetna also accompanied us during the farmer's market to reintroduce themselves to the community, provide residents with information, and helped them register for their available services.
