A "Mexican Morning" During Villa de las Flores' Fall Health Fair in Imperial Valley

In collaboration with our partners at El Centro Regional Medical Center (ECRMC), our PSCDC Imperial team hosted a highly requested health fair for our residents at Villa de las Flores on September 14th. With the fair hosted two days before Mexican Independence Day, coordinators, residents, and partners arrived wearing Mexican-themed blouses and festive Mexican clothing. Most of the agencies decorated their tables with a Mexican theme like pinatas and fake cactus plants to add to the atmosphere! PSCDC Coordinators Layla Perez, Manuel Fernandez, and Suzette Mardueno assisted Imperial Valley's Director of Services Luz Vallejo and ECRMC's Sombra Chaney during the event. A total of 54 senior residents attended to receive information and sign up for resources available to seniors in Imperial Valley. Attending residents also received an entry to the fair's raffle drawing to take home some special prizes!

"PSCDC's team is always available to help residents with referrals to health agencies, and during service hours, we bring agencies directly to the properties to offer their services to our residents," says Luz Vallejo. "Our residents know they can depend on our Coordinators if they need help contacting outside agencies in regards to health services and many others. If we were unable to help the resident directly, we know the people in the Imperial Valley who can."

Villa de las Flores residents certainly took the health fair as an opportunity to meet our Imperial Valley partners and take advantage of rent payment assistance programs, adult protective services, and many more senior-focused services. Our partners that attended the fair include:

Luz's goal is to provide a wide assortment of services and assistance for Imperial Valley residents to use. "PSCDC is working to improve the services we provide to our residents and expanding our network of agency contacts while remaining cautious and protecting our residents from possible fraudulent persons and agencies looking to take advantage of our residents."

Our friends at Accent Care, ECRMC, and Imperial County Agency on Aging also provided special raffle prizes to residents that attended: a decorative toaster, fuzzy blanket, and a $35 gift card, respectively. A few residents were able to take some extra goodies home!

Overall, the event was a success, with residents at Villa de las Flores grateful to have an event hosted at their property.

"The residents at Villa de las Flores love coming out to events," Luz admits, "they are very social and especially enjoyed this time as we have all been having to stay at home for the past year. They also enjoyed dressing up in traditional Mexican clothing and representing their heritage this year."

A heartful thanks go out to all of the agencies that attended our event. They all care deeply about our residents and providing quality health care services to the whole population of Imperial County. Thank you also to El Centro Regional Medical Center for teaming up with us to plan this outstanding event!
