With the holidays upon us, schools have started their winter breaks which means a small break for our young residents but the start of holiday volunteering for Del Norte San Diego League's boys team charity (btc). The volunteer service organization is dedicated to developing an altruistic spirit in young men through active participation of parents and sons in philanthropic projects in their community. Putting this spirit into practice, the members of btc work with children of PSCDC residents to help get their week started with some extra support. Since the beginning of the school year, they have been working hard in supporting our young residents in Fairbanks Ridge Apartments by providing homework help and tutoring. PSCDC is proud and honored to be partnered with btc for over 4 years because they have been a core part in helping Fairbanks Ridge kids succeed in their education.
The charity even offers support for our residents beyond education. PSCDC has invited btc to help with other community needs such as supporting the farmers market over the summer. A recent collaboration between PSCDC and btc launched a new program where volunteers join the children at Fairbanks Ridge for a monthly game night. Our young residents are often eagerly waiting at the door for the volunteers in their trademark bright blue shirts to arrive! Smiles and enthusiasm from both children and volunteers fill the Community Room as the dice are rolled and the cards are shuffled during a fun and educational game night!
The partnership with Del Norte's boys team charity has been valuable in serving our residents while providing valuable leadership opportunities for boys who have a passion for serving their community. Chances are, if you are out and about in the San Diego community, you will see a group of btc volunteers in their blue finding a way to make a difference. Recently, btc served over 200 meals to families at the McDonald's San Diego Ronald McDonald House Holiday Dinner! The boys team charity has been making a huge impact to not only residents of PSCDC, but to communities all over San Diego!
