Imperial Valley Branch Hosts Annual Volunteer Appreciation Banquet
PSWCDC's goals for providing educational, financial, and social opportunities for our residents would not be possible or as impactful without the help of selfless volunteers over the years in assisting in food banks, special events, and supporting the PSWCDC staff.
On Thursday, the 21st of March, we decided to give back to those who have given us and the community so much by having our third annual volunteer appreciation event in Imperial Valley.
During the event, our volunteers were the stars of the show, just like they have been with every food bank, health fairs, and other events that they have given their time to. They were treated to a three-course meal, raffle gifts donated by many of our community's organizations and businesses, and a reading of Jorge and the Lost Cookie Jar done by the author, Marta Arroyo. Prizes from the raffle consisted of items and monetary contributions from Walmart, Buffalo Wild Wings, Olive Garden, Johnny Carino’s, Accent Care, Access to Independence, and Cardenas Market. Besides the raffle, personalized tumbler cups were given to all our volunteers as a symbol of our gratitude.
The lunch was held at the Imperial Gardens affordable housing community room which was decorated with dazzling white table cloths and chair slipcovers, balloons, and small bouquets of roses adorning each table. Instead of having a restaurant cater the event, Luz Vallejo and her team of site coordinators in Imperial Valley prepared the lunch themselves. By applying their knowledge from workshops hosted by the University of California's Corporate Extension Health and Wellness Program, the coordinators prepared and served a nutritious lunch comprised of salads, vegetables, and lean chicken.
None of what we do would be possible without the help of our volunteers. Our event was a statement of how much they mean to the staff of Pacific Southwest. All the work put into the ideas for the event, the decorations, and the food was a declaration of how grateful we are. Once again, but not for the last time, thank you to all those individuals who gave their time and efforts to help us impact our communities in such a positive way.
