It's back to school time, and the clubhouse at the Lakeside housing complex in San Leandro is at full speed, with its staff helping the community's kids make the most of their education by mentoring, providing tutoring, and aiding with homework. And now, there is lots of homework every day! Although the focus of the programs is their education, there is always room for some fun! After all, all of our young residents deserve to enjoy their childhood. On Tuesday, October 22, 2019, the Consulate of Mexico and Pacific Southwest Community Development Corporation hosted a health fair for the residents of Villa de Las Flores Apartments and invited our neighboring properties: Villa Del Sol, Villa Primavera, Villa Dorada, and Calexico Family to attend. On October 9 and October 10, the San Diego Housing Federation hosted its 29th annual Affordable Housing and Community Development Institutes and Conference at the gorgeous Hilton San Diego Bayfront. The conference attracted about 750 key players last week in the affordable housing and resident services realm to discuss the growing challenges that communities are facing every day. The county's only day-long conference dedicated to building and preserving affordable homes and diverse communities was a platform to train, teach, and share innovative solutions to combat homelessness and the need for more affordable living.
